Imaging inflammation in individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder: an [18F]NOS study

Imaging inflammation in individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder: an [18F]NOS study

Brief description of study

This is a research study for people ages 18-65 to learn more about how regular alcohol use affects inflammation in the brain and other organs. We will study this using a Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT) scan using a radioactive imaging drug called [18F]NOS. [18F]NOS is an experimental radioactive molecule used in PET imaging to measure inflammation in various organs in the body, including the brain.  [18F]NOS has not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use except in research. The use of [18F]NOS in this study is allowed under an Investigational New Drug Application approved by the FDA. This study will enroll up to 30 healthy volunteers, and up to 60 individuals with an alcohol use disorder.
