DBS Electrophysiological Recordings

Brief description of study

The objective of this study is to obtain neural recordings from deep brain structures while performing simple intraoperative tasks in order to improve the understanding of temporal relationship of deep neural signals and the performance of simple psychomotor, cognitive, and/or executive tasks. The standard DBS surgery provides an opportunity to study deep brain neurons via microelectrode recordings and electrical stimulation in awake patients. We will also be obtaining similar recordings pre- and postoperatively. The primary end point is to find spatiotemporal patterns of deep brain neural activity that is associated with the performance of specific tasks. The secondary end point of the study is to identify specific deep brain signature marker that may be predictive or anticipatory of human behavior.
