The REMBRANDT Study (Recovery of the Microbiome from Antibiotics for Dental Implants)
Brief description of study
The purpose of the study is to determine whether owning a pet changes the disruption and recovery of a person's microbiome (collection of bacteria in the intestines) following a course of antibiotics after they have received dental implant treatment.
Detailed description of study
We are recruiting two groups: one with pets and one without. Eligible participants will be asked to collect stool samples from themselves (and from their pets if they are pet owners).
Samples will be collected, once
before their implant procedure and at 4 different sampling dates following their procedure (3, 10, 30 and 90 days after). First visit can be completed in-person or remotely online. All
samples can be collected at home, and participants will be provided with study materials for sample storage and shipment.
Additional InformationYou may be eligible to participate if you are aged 60 years or older and are scheduled to receive a dental implant.
