Responsive Neurostimulation for Loss of Control Over Eating
Brief description of study
This is an early feasibility study looking at the safety, feasibility, and potential benefit of a
medical device, called the NeuroPace RNS System, for people suffering from obesity, with
uncontrolled eating habits.
Detailed description of study
A small number of
people report feeling distressed about their inability to control their eating.
They eat certain foods even when not physically hungry or do not stop their
eating despite being full. Sometimes current treatments such as behavioral
(talk) therapies, medication, and bariatric surgery may not help. Penn's
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program is partnering with Dr. Casey Halpern's
team in the Department of Neurosurgery to consider additional options for
people with loss-of-control eating who have not improved with conventional
treatments.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Weight Loss,Obesity

Age: Between 22 Years - 70 Years

Gender: All
You may be eligible to participate in an FDA-approved research study if you are 22 to 70 years old, have a BMI of 40-60 kg/m2, have undergone gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery, and have tried an FDA-approved weight loss medication without success.
