Impact of Nicotine Messaging on Beliefs and Behavior
Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of nicotine messaging on beliefs and behavior while using investigational cigarettes with either normal nicotine levels or reduced nicotine levels.
Detailed description of study
During this study you will be asked to view
messages on a computer while having your eye movements recorded. You will also
be assigned to smoke one of two types of investigational cigarettes: those with
normal nicotine levels or those with reduced nicotine levels. You will be informed which type of investigational
cigarette you are assigned to smoke as part of the research study. During six
in-person sessions at our Center, you will provide us with breath samples,
answer questionnaires, and smoke cigarettes in our Center’s well-ventilated
smoking rooms. After the second in-person session, our Center will provide you
with study cigarettes that you will smoke for the remainder of the study at no
cost. At two of the sessions, you will also be asked to provide a small urine
sample. Over the course of the study, we will ask you to collect your used
cigarette filters in bags provided by the Center. You will be asked to bring
these filter collection bags with you to each in-person session.
The entire study will take approximately 6
weeks for you to complete. You will be asked to attend 6 in-person sessions
every 6-8 days. Most in-person sessions will be about 1-2 hours long. This
is not a quit smoking study. Participants will be compensated for their time
and effort for each session they complete.
