FS-CAMP: Fed-State Cardiac Arteriovenous Metabolomic Profiling

FS-CAMP: Fed-State Cardiac Arteriovenous Metabolomic Profiling

Brief description of study

This study will enroll subjects who are coming in for a clinical EP procedure that involves the use of venous, coronary sinus, and arterial line placement.

Our patient population is primarily from the surrounding urban and suburban region of Penn Medicine.

The research team plans to quantify cardiac metabolism during a simulated fed state by infusing nutrients IV into cardiac EP patients to mimic feeding. This will be achieved by sampling of affluent and effluent cardiac blood during elective cardiac EP procedures while patients are simultaneously given an infusion of parenteral nutrition including stable (non-radioactive) isotope-labeled glucose and phenylalanine. Metabolite quantification in blood samples will then allow for precise measurement of cardiac metabolism.
