Effects of Nutritional Ketone Ester on Brain Function and Alcohol Consumption in Alcohol Use Disorder

Study Overview
The goal of this study is to learn more about how a nutritional supplement “ketone ester” (Health via Modern Nutrition; H.V.M.N) has an effect on brain function and on alcohol consumption in individuals with alcohol use disorder.
We will study this using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans.
Participants that agree to join the study, will be asked to complete the following research procedures:
- Drinking a nutritional supplement ketone ester
- MRI scans of the brain
- Blood draws for measurements of glucose or other testing
- Alcohol consumption: we will give you a tray with alcoholic drinks (i.e., vodka mixed with diet soda of your choice) Participants will be asked to come to Penn Medicine 3 times over a period of approximately 4 weeks.
