The Effect of Flavoring on the Rewarding and Reinforcing Value of Cigarillo Use among Young Adults

Brief description of study

The University of Pennsylvania's Tobacco Use Research Center is recruiting young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 for a research study examining the rewarding and reinforcing value of flavoring in cigarillos.
 
Eligible participants will complete 3 in-person sessions over the course of 2-3 weeks and receive study-provided flavored and non-flavored cigarillos to smoke in-center at no cost. Eligible persons will also be asked to abstain from tobacco use for short periods between visits. Sessions will be scheduled Monday through Friday at approximately 1:00PM. Participants will be compensated for their time and travel for each session they complete.

This is NOT a quit smoking program.

Detailed description of study

If you agree to join the study, you will be asked to complete the following research procedures: 
• Complete a urine drug screen 
• Complete a carbon monoxide (CO) and breath alcohol (BrAC) assessments 
• Answer questions about your medical history (to confirm final eligibility) and smoking behaviors 
• Complete questionnaires about your smoking behaviors, marijuana use, and other smoking related topics 
• Smoke study-provided cigarillos in our ventilated smoking laboratory while under observation

Once your final eligibility is confirmed, your participation in this study will last 2 to 3 weeks. Participants will receive $240 total for study completion (Visit 1 $55, Visit 2 $65, Visit 3 $80, $40 bonus for completing all assessments).
