Brief description of study

A double-blind placebo controlled trial of high dose hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as a treatment for COVID-19 positive patients who are quarantined at home

Detailed description of study


1.     For this study group we are seeking people over the age of 40 with fever and cough or fever and shortness of breath who have not yet been tested for coronavirus.
2.     If criteria 1 is met, to be eligible for the study you need to be tested at the HUP or Penn Presbyterian Medical Center Emergency Room.
3.     People who meet criteria 1 and 2 who had their first symptoms within 4 days of getting tested are candidates for the study.  
4.     People who meet criteria 1-3 and are positive for coronavirus but do not require hospitalization and have been instructed to self-quarantine at home are candidates. 
5.      Study volunteers must live within 30 miles of the Hospital of University of  Pennsylvania (HUP)or Presbyterian Medical Center (Presby)
6.     Study related activities include daily symptom diary, self-reported temperatures checks and daily phone calls. Study participants must have internet access with working computer or smart phone.
