Healthy volunteers for Neuroinflammatory research study

Healthy volunteers for Neuroinflammatory research study

Brief description of study

We are conducting research studies on how immune system cells contribute to inflammatory conditions of the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica (NMO), encephalitis, head injury, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AzD), Lou Gherig's disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; ALS) frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and others. This includes investigating how particular immune cell subsets interact with other immune cells, and how they may interact with brain cells. We believe these interactions can be relevant both for injury and repair in such conditions. While we carry out the same studies in people who suffer from these conditions, it is important for us to be able to compare any results to what would be seen when studying
people who do not have these conditions. This is why we are asking for your blood and/or other samples.

Detailed description of study

You are being asked to donate blood and/or other samples such as saliva, tears, urine, or stool for research purposes. Your samples will be used in laboratory experiments. You must not be pregnant and you must be 18 or older and weigh over 110 pounds.  Approximately 6 to 8 tablespoons which (between 90ml to 120ml) of your blood will be needed. The procedure is a venous blood draw which involves placing a needle in a vein in your arm to take blood, and will require less than 5 minutes. You will be asked to donate no more often than once every two weeks. The repeat donations will be restricted in such a way as to ensure that the amounts drawn will not exceed 550 ml in an 8-week period.

Additional Information
At the time of your donation, you will receive $20 gift card for your participation for each visit regardless for the number of research samples collected.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    healthy
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 60 Years
  • Gender: All
