Measurement of Pulmonary Inflammation Using F-NOS Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT) in E-cigarette Users
Brief description of study
This is a 2 visit study to occur over 1 – 2 months. This
study examines and compares inflammation between e-cigarette/vape nicotine users,
e-cigarette/vape cannabis users, cigarette smokers, dual users (e-cigarette/vape
users and smokers of nicotine and cannabis), and non-smokers using a new
radioactive tracer, FNOS.
**We are no longer enrolling NON-SMOKERS**
FNOS is an experimental radioactive tracer used to look for
inflammation in different parts of the body. The tracer that we will be using
has been shown to be safe for use on both humans and animals and allows us to effectively
examine the level of inflammation in the lungs and throughout the body. The
level of radiation you will be exposed to is very minimal and unlikely to have
any effect on you.
Although some evidence suggests that e-cigarettes do not
affect lung inflammation, very few studies have produced data to support that.
The findings of this PET scan will help scientists better understand the
effects of e-cigarette/vape smoking on the lungs compared to traditional
smoking and the combination of the two.
Detailed description of study
In this study, you will participate in only 2 visits (~2-3 hour
visits):
1) a combined consent and screening visit
2) one PET/CT lung scan to be scheduled over the course of
approximately 6 weeks.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Nicotine Dependence,Lung Inflammation,healthy volunteer

Age: Between 18 Years - 45 Years

Gender: All
To participate in this study, you must 1) smoke only cigarettes, use only
e-cigarettes or vapes for either nicotine or cannabis, use both an e-cigarette
and smoke combustible nicotine/cannabis, or be a non-smoker.
