Brain stimulation with TMS for Adult ADHD

Brain stimulation with TMS for Adult ADHD

Brief description of study

The purpose of this research program is to evaluate the effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on brain activity.

Detailed description of study

TMS is a type of brain stimulation that uses magnetic fields to stimulate brain activity. The dosage of brain stimulation to be delivered is known to be safe, based on studies in hundreds of volunteers conducted to date. As a part of this research program participants will be asked to complete 22 program visits to our office in Philadelphia, PA. Your first visit will be a medical screening visit to determine whether or not you are eligible for this study. The second is a baseline visit to determine your baseline level of cognitive function and ADHD symptoms. The 20 subsequent visits are brain stimulation visits, conducted on weekdays for 4 consecutive weeks. The entire program will take approximately 6 weeks for you to complete. During each brain stimulation visit, participants will receive their assigned stimulation: either active or sham stimulation (similar to a placebo). Prior research suggests that this treatment may provide benefits in terms of improved thinking abilities; this will be tested in the current research program. Participation in this research program is entirely voluntary, and any information we collect about you will be kept strictly confidential.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
