Eye and Brain Connections: MRI Study of Normal-Sighted Controls

Brief description of study

The goal of this study is to better understand how visual information reaches the brain and how this process changes over time. Using advanced MRI methodology we will examine structure and function of visual pathways within the brain to gain deeper understanding of how people with low vision are able to see before and after retinal gene therapy.

Detailed description of study

Participants will be asked to participate in a neuroimaging study involving MRI. Subjects will also receive a routine eye test to measure visual acuity and visual field. MRI sessions consist of functional and structural MRIs that are performed in two separate one hour MRIs with a half hour rest in between. During the functional MRI subjects will complete several visual tasks that engage vision. During the structural MRI participants will be lying still and not performing any task. All of these procedures are non-invasive and visits should take approximately three hours. Participants will be asked to return for a follow-up MRI one year later. For each MRI you will be reimbursed for your time and parking/public transportation costs.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Retinal Degeneration, Retinal Diseases, Low Vision, Healthy Control
  • Age: Between 25 Years - 52 Years
  • Gender: Male
