The Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of the Prefrontal Cortex on Behavior

Brief description of study

This experiment involves receiving transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive technique by which very weak electric currents are applied to the scalp to learn more about the relationship between prefrontal cortex activity and behavior. You will be asked to respond to a series of questionnaires and tasks measuring behaviors, including antisocial behaviors, and psychological characteristics. Heart rate will also be recorded during a 2-minute period. Participation will involve one testing session and a short web-based follow-up survey to be completed the following day.

Detailed description of study

Requirements: You must (1) be above the age of 18, (2) have no history of unstable medical conditions, or significant neurological, cardiovascular, or psychiatric illness including anxiety disorders (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder) and mood disorders (e.g., depression), (3) not be consuming anti-depressants or anti-convulsant, anti-psychotic, or sedative/hypnotic medications, (4) have no metallic implants on the scalp, (5) have no history of seizures, and (6) not have participated in any other transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) experiments on the day of this study.
